The current Maxima was expected to be a high performance sedan that was going to compete with cars like the Charger or the BMW 5 Series. This didn’t happen unfortunately. Instead, Nissan released the current model back in 2015 as a front wheel drive sedan. Even though it is not as sporty as some thought it was going to be, the Maxima still offers unrivaled levels of luxury and features for the price which is very important in this class. However, not that long ago some rumors started to surface about the upcoming 2018 Nissan Maxima. It seems that this mid-life facelift will come with some interesting upgrades for the car, but more on that later.

From the outside, the 2018 Nissan Maxima looks both lower and longer than before. The headlamps resemble a boomerang and feature latest LED technology.

As for the grille, it is V-shaped and goes deep into the front bumper, making this one extremely aggressive-looking vehicle.

From the sides, it looks like the new Maxima is going to look a bit different, because of the new dimensions.

Apart from that, the panoramic moonroof is also a nice touch, adding to the muscular and aggressive exterior that is already there.

Guessing the interior of the 2018 Nissan Maxima is not going to be easy, especially if we consider that no actual photos exist at this point. The layout is being compared to the Sport Sedan and apart from the larger HVAC vents and extra buttons they seem to be right.

This would make for a more crowded center stack, but if they get the layout right, this will not be much of a problem. The front seats are rumored to be the innovative Zero Gravity ones, which could mean some very good news to those who like to adjust their seats.

Cloth is the norm for the upholstery, and it is actually pretty good at this level. However, if you prefer leather, it can be arranged, for the right price. There are even leather inserts of the steering wheel and if you really want to go all out, why not go for the Alcantara?

Connectivity should be second to none, with navigation being a standard feature and combined with the infotainment system on an 8-inch touchscreen.

There is voice recognition in there as well, but what you will be staring at the most – apart from the road, hopefully – is the 7-inch display with all the relevant information instead of the standard gauge cluster.

The new Maxima will come equipped with only a single engine model, albeit a very good one. This engine is a 3.5-liter V6 powertrain capable of producing 300 hp at 6.400 rpm, and 261 lb-ft of torque at 4.400 rpm. Additionally, it comes connected to an Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), for added power efficiency.

With these numbers and specs, it is expected that the 2018 Nissan Maxima will be capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. With the help of the CVT, the fuel economy will be also enhanced, with 21 mpg in city conditions. And 30 mpg on highways. The driving quality and road handling will be improved, with the introduction of a new suspension system, along with a new integrated dynamic control module, and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Although the exact release date of the upcoming 2018 Nissan Maxima is being kept in secret by Nissan. It is highly likely that it will hit the market in mid or late 2017. The price will depend on the variant, the standard is expected to be priced at 33.000$, while the enhanced variants will reach the price of more than 40.000$
